COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will prepare students to create Web pages for personal and business purposes. Students will learn basic Internet concepts, using an Internet browser, and Web page creation. Emphasis is placed on learning the Hypertext Markup language (HTML), using and editing graphic files, and creating various types of Web pages.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES: 

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:  

  1. Define the World Wide Web, Web server, Web Client, and Web provider.

  2. Illustrate the use of HTML tags.

  3. Produce ordered, unordered, and indented lists.

  4. Create links to other Web pages.

  5. Evaluate Web page contents.

  6. Place images  in a Web page.

  7. Design tables to store organized data.

  8. Create Image Maps.

  9. Produce on-line forms

  10. Design Frames.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

        Students will be able to:

 Design Web pages containing links, tables, images, and forms using HTML and XHTML markup languages.
 

LECTURES:

The lectures are grouped under 8 major units.  Each week the student is expected to study and finish one unit in order to complete the course.  The lectures are designed by using various example and practice sections.  Students should read the lecture notes and follow the examples.  The practice sections should be completed by the students before advancing to the next section of the lecture. An email link is available in all the lectures, so that the students can email their questions to the instructor. The quiz and the assignments are listed at the end of each unit.  After completing each unit, students should read the book and complete the assignments.  Important dates and announcements are listed in the course Calendar.

EXAMS:

One midterm and one final exam will be given during the semester.  Students are expected to take the exams during the schedule times listed on the schedule.  Make up exams will not be given unless under emergency circumstances.

 

QUIZ:

Students are expected to take an online quiz after completing each chapter of the book.  Each quiz will be available for one week and the student can take the quiz at any time during that week.  Since each quiz can only be taken one time, the student should study the lectures and the book before taking the quiz.  After completing the quiz the student can review his/her grade by visiting the Progress Report area of the course.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

At the end of each unit, students are expected to create and post Web page assignments to our server. The Assignment area of the course lists the six assignments and their due dates.   Instructions on posting the Web pages are available in the lectures section of the course. Late assignments will not be accepted.

 

DISCUSSIONS and CHAT:                      

After completing each unit, students are expected to participate in the class discussions by posting messages in the bulletin board.  Each student should post at least two messages per week. Periodically chat sessions will be arranged so students and the instructor can participate in a live chat.  The dates and times for the chat sessions will be listed in the Calendar.

The final grade for this class is based on the following criteria:

COURSE GRADE:

The letter grades will be assigned at the end of the semester according to the following scale:

                                            A:  90-100%

                                             B:  80-89%

                                            C:  70-79%

                                            D:  60-69%

                                            F:  < 60%

                         

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY WILL RESULT IN A GRADE OF “F” IN THIS COURSE.
